Therapy Process
We typically start with an initial parent-only intake appointment, then work with kids on a weekly basis, with additional parent-only sessions every four to six weeks (or more frequently, depending on the client/family). We check in regularly with parents and kids about progress and ongoing focus of treatment. As gains are made, the frequency of appointments are reduced and therapy is ended when we all agree that the child is meeting the goals that brought the family to treatment.
Family Involvement
We see kids as being part of a family system, and parents as integral partners in supporting children’s success. We work to facilitate conversation between parents and kids, and we integrate parents of elementary school-aged kids into part or all of every session. This assures that parents are aware of the skills kids are learning in-session and have a plan for how best to support their child in practicing these skills outside of the therapy appointment.
Fees
Fees and rates at Child Psych Ottawa are consistent with guidelines outlined by the Ontario Psychological Association. Our services are not covered by OHIP; however, all clinicians at Child Psych Ottawa are registered Psychologists so most extended insurance plans will reimburse all or part of the fees. While a referral is not needed to access our services, some insurance plans do require a referral from a physician. Please inquire with your extended insurance plan about your coverage amount, potential fees, and if you need a referral.
Following each visit, you will receive a receipt outlining the services rendered which can be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement. The remaining, non-reimbursed fees may be claimed as a medical expense on your tax returns.
Psychological services are currently billed at $250 per hour.
Non-direct Services
Non-direct services are billed at our hourly rate in a prorated amount. Such services include but are not limited to:
Consultation with teachers, paediatricians, or other professionals
Participation in school meetings
Phone calls between sessions
Email communications
Letter writing
Records review
Form applications
Cancellation Policy
Because an appointment slot is saved for you, there will be a charge for appointments canceled or missed with less than 48 hours notice.
